Niaz Ahmed Khan said, Dhaka University is a national institution. Dhaka University presents any major decision, activities before the nation. In that vein, he has appeared today. He has come to inform about the plan regarding the post of Vice-Chancellor.
Niaz Ahmed Khan outlined the context of taking charge of the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU). He said, he took charge in a transitional period, in very special circumstances, at the end of August 2024. It was a very emergency situation then. The university was practically non-existent. Academic activities were closed. The halls were floating. The administrative structure had become useless. In that situation, the first task was to start the academic activities of the university together with everyone. To take it to a stable level.
Niaz Ahmed Khan said, today, after about one and a half years, they (the university) are in a fairly good position together with everyone. There is an upward trend in the emergency situation, disasters and the university as a whole. There are still many limitations. But overall, an upward trend is seen in all areas. The emergency and special situation in which he took charge, they have been able to overcome that emergency or special situation at this moment with the cooperation of everyone, with the love of the stakeholders.
The Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University said, ‘So I now think that this is a period of fulfilling responsibility, we have come to a good stage and I want to step down.’
Niaz Ahmed Khan mentioned that at this moment, there should be no vacuum, continuity should not be hampered, the university needs a smooth transition, so if the government thinks of him, if the stakeholders think that they want to take some more time on the issue of this continuity, so that there should not be a sudden vacuum, if they want to take some time on that issue, he is willing to consider it in the interest of the continuity of the university.
